We got settled into our room a few hours after Peyton was born. Kyle was lucky enough to get to change his first few poopy diapers, which were just horrendous. I was feeling pretty good but was, of course, a little sore. My parents hung around for a little while to love on their first grandchild, but then left to give our new family some alone time.
Eventually it was time for us to go to sleep. Unfortunately, Peyton had other plans. I was just so exhausted from the past two days. And really, Kyle was too. Peyton just cried and cried. We tried to feed him, we changed his diaper, I rocked him... nothing worked. At the hospital where I delivered, the babies room-in with the mothers, but there is a nursery too. We debated taking Peyton to the nursery for the night so that we could get some rest. Did that make us bad parents? Eventually we decided it was best for everyone. Kyle and I were able to get some rest and Peyton got to have fun with the other babies. I bet they were having a party.
The next day was Saturday and we had some visitors. My parents came back with flowers and balloons. Kate and Dave also visited and brought balloons and McDonalds. That was much appreciated as the hospital food was not so great.
The rest of the day we just spent holding Peyton. We even kept him in the room with us that night. We figured eventually we'd have to used to taking care of him at night too, haha.
We were discharged on Sunday morning. I couldn't wait to get out of there and back home. We dressed Peyton in his going home outfit which was just gigantic on him. When I was still pregnant, they predicted he was going to be way over 8 lbs when he was born. Um, good try guys. Our little dude was tiny! He was just swimming in those clothes, but still looked cute, of course!
We had the worst time trying to figure out how the car seat worked. It is funny now looking back, but at the time we were super stressed out. We just couldn't figure out how to loosen the straps to get Peyton in. No one at the hospital could help us so that they wouldn't get sued if something bad were to happen. Great. Eventually we figured it out and we were on our way.
When we came home, this was waiting for us outside.
We tried to settle into some sort of routine. Kyle was home from work with me for a week. After that I was on my own...
