December 2007

On the first weekend in December, Kyle and I decided that we wanted to go out to dinner, just the two of us. This was a big deal as it would be the first time that we left Peyton with anyone. My parents are wonderful about babysitting whenever we need them or want them to. We dropped him off and I felt so guilty about leaving him. It took a long time to say goodbye, even though we were only going to be 15 minutes away. We went to dinner at The Avenue. I even had my first drink since getting pregnant. It was quite exciting. We were back to pick up Peyton within two hours. It was all I could stand to be away from him!

Peyton was baptized on December 9.

His godparents are Aunt Kate and Uncle Dave. We were lucky to have a bunch of our family come in from out of town to meet Peyton and be there for this special occasion. Grandma Linda, Uncle Ryan, Aunt Becky, cousin Lindsey, and Grandpa Mike were all there. Peyton was baptized at St. Anthony, which was my church growing up and where Kyle and I got married. Father Lou, who married us, also performed the baptism.

After the ceremony, we hosted a party for Peyton at Bill Bateman's. The rest of our family came to the party.

Since most of Kyle's family was in town, we decided to have Christmas with them while they were here. We all went to Kate's house for dinner and to exchange gifts. It looks like Peyton did not enjoy his first Christmas experience, but really it was just because Kyle put that silly bow on his head!

Peyton was able to hold a small toy in his hand on December 16. That was pretty exciting for him as he could finally put things other than his hands in his mouth!

For Peyton's first Christmas Eve, we wrote a letter to Santa and put out cookies and milk for him. Then I read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to Peyton. My dad read this poem to my brother and I every year, so it was very important for me to carry on this tradition with my kids.

We hosted breakfast at our house on Christmas morning. My parents, Jeremy, and my grandparents all came over to eat and then watch Peyton open his gifts from Santa. Then we exchanged gifts with all of them. Peyton got so much stuff and he was only two months old!

Peyton enjoyed his first Maryland football bowl game. Unfortunately Maryland lost. Oh well, it happens.

On New Year Eve, we had a small party. Jeremy came over and we met his girlfriend, Jill for the first time. We ♥ her!

Kurt and Janelle, who was pregnant with Lily at the time, also came over.

We played board games and hung out until midnight. Peyton woke up to say "Happy New Year!" with us.

Wow! That was a pretty busy month, huh?
