Steak and Ice Cream

On Saturday, the weather was gorgeous! For dinner, we decided to cook steak out on the grill. We marinated the steak early in the afternoon so that it would be packed with flavor by dinner time. Peyton gets so angry if Kyle and I are eating one thing and we give him something different (more kid-friendly) to eat. The last time we ate steak, he threw a fit because he wasn't eating steak. We let him try some and he loved it! So this time, we knew to make him a steak (or as Peyton says - "snake") as well.

Peyton ate all of his steak and half of mine! He definitely ate more meat than me. People never believe us when we tell them how much he eats because he is so skinny, but that boy can put some food away. We also had french fries with dinner, but Peyton didn't want to eat those. He didn't want to waste his appetite on some stupid fries when he could have steak instead.

After dinner, we headed over to Coldstone to get some ice cream. We just wanted to go somewhere where we could sit outside and relax for a little while. I am sad to report that I actually had a bad ice cream experience. I never thought that this was possible! I ordered butterscotch ice cream with some mix-ins and ended up with chocolate ice cream with peanut butter. Those two things aren't even close to each other! I ate the chocolate and it was ok, but I really wanted that butterscotch ice cream! Kyle ordered banana ice cream and Peyton used his spoon to sample both flavors. After we cleaned up Peyton we headed home to play a little more before bedtime.

Steak on the grill and ice cream for dessert are what summer is all about.

Water Table Fun

We bought Peyton a water table. Here are some pictures from the first time he played with it. I just love his little Hawaiian print bathing suit too!

I love how his mouth is wide open in concentrationBoat!Where is Peyton? There he is! Doesn't he look like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz?

Peyton had a lot of fun with the water table. I'm sure we'll be playing with it many more times this summer.

Father's Day Weekend

On Saturday we headed to a cook-out to celebrate my cousin's baby's baptism. There was a tornado watch in effect for all of Maryland and a tornado warning in effect for just Harford County. Guess where the party was? Luckily there were no tornadoes, and it didn't even rain.

The party was at my aunt and uncle's house. They have a pond in their backyard with lots of big goldfish. Here is Peyton feeding the fish some oatmeal.

My other cousin has a baby that is 9 days older than Peyton. My aunt watches her during the day, so there were lots of toys for Peyton to play with.

He rode in the car.
He cut the grass.
He rode on the tricycle.
He swung in the swing.
Sunday was Father's Day. Here's Peyton giving Daddy his card and presents.
Peyton gave Daddy a golf towel and a golf club cleaning kit. I gave him some golf balls.

We didn't really do anything special. I think Kyle had a good day anyway. He is such an awesome dad and Peyton is totally a daddy's boy. I loved Kyle before we had Peyton (duh!), but seeing them two together makes me love him so much more!

And, I'd also like to shout out to my dad, the original #1 dad! You're pretty great too.

M&M?

This story is so funny (at least to Kyle and I) that I had to write it down so that I wouldn't forget it.

First, a little back story. We have a candy dish full of M&Ms sitting on our coffee table in the family room. Sometimes Peyton will get a cheesy grin on his face and go over to them and ask to eat some. We always tell him, "One." Then we ask him what color he wants. He eats his M&M and is a happy kid.

When my parents were in Las Vegas last year, they bought Peyton an Elmo CD. I put the CD in my car, and we listened to it a few times. Eventually Peyton came to love that CD, and now he asks to listen to it every time we are in the car.

Well, last night we were on our way to dinner in Kyle's car when Peyton asked, "Elmo? Elmo?" Kyle said, "Daddy doesn't have Elmo in his car; he has Eminem." Peyton replied, "One. Purple." It was so hilarious. Kids say the funniest things.

Noah's Baptism

Sunday was our nephew Noah's baptism. We headed down to Virginia for the ceremony and lunch afterwards. Here is a picture of Noah at his house before the baptism. Dave's mom made Noah's outfit out of Kate's wedding dress scraps. It looked great!

How cute is he?!
The baptism was a little strange, because there were 11 kids being baptised at the same time. The ceremony started out with all of the families sitting in their own pews. The parents declared that they wanted their children baptised and the parents and godparents (Kyle and I) made the sign of the cross on the children's heads. Then there was a reading. Next, the priest called the children, three at a time to the baptismal fountain. Noah got to go first since he was first alphabetically. He did a great job and didn't cry at all.

After all of the children were baptised, the priest gave each family a lit candle. He talked a little more and then it was over. It was surprisingly quick for there being 11 kids.

There were lots of pictures taken after the baptism. Here's us with Noah, Kate, and Dave.

Everyone headed to a restaurant called Clyde's after church. Peyton was a little cranky because he didn't get to take a nap, but he did ok. Everyone just chatted and I finally got to hold Noah. It was good to see Kyle's parents and grandparents, since we don't get to see them much. We were invited to Kate and Dave's house after the restaurant, but it was getting late and Peyton was tired, so we just headed home.

We had a very fun weekend with Ryan, Becky, and the girls. And once again, we're honored to be Noah's godparents. And Peyton definitely loves his godbrother (inside joke).

Play Wise Kids

Warning: Picture overload!

On Saturday, we took the kids to a place called Play Wise Kids in Columbia. Basically, it was a giant warehouse-type building, with a lot of different play areas. Each "room" was divided from the others with a little wall. There was a different activity in each room and there were tons of rooms. I took over one hundred pictures there that day! A lot of them were blurry because the kids didn't want to stand still long enough for me to snap the picture.

When we first arrived, the kids headed to this playhouse. Lindsey and Peyton went inside and Sara stayed outside to smell the flowers.

Next, the kids found a room with these huge building blocks. Ryan made a small building for them to knock over and Peyton tried to carry around those huge puzzle pieces.

Peyton wandered away from that room only to find a huge castle climbing structure with a ball pit inside. I bet you can guess where he stayed for the next 20 minutes...

Meanwhile, Lindsey headed over to the grocery store to do some shopping. She picked out lots of fruits and vegetables.

We finally were able to pry Peyton out of the ball pit to visit another room. He and Lindsey found this room that was basically a giant sandbox. There were tons of sand toys and a big boat in there. We took Peyton's shoes and socks off and put him in the sand. He stood there for a second with a look on his face that said, "What the heck is this stuff?" But he didn't seem to mind it and had a blast playing in the sand. We had to eventually drag him out of this room too.

Another room that the kids visited had these giant Tinker toys. Kyle tried to build something, but was unsuccessful at being creative. Ha. Peyton just made a tower with the large blocks so that he could "Achoo!" and knock them over.

Peyton and Lindsey serenaded us with some music.

Peyton discovered a room with a few different jungle gyms. He couldn't resist the slides.

He had to take a break to check out himself in the mirror. That boy loves himself, I tell ya.

But then it was time for more sliding.

Peyton and Daddy built a wall out of these foam blocks. Peyton had a good time busting through the wall.

Uncle Ryan built a mountain for Lindsey and Peyton to climb on.

There was also a room with some arcade sports games. There was a basketball hoop, football throwing game, air hockey table, and Foosball tables. Peyton saw some balls and he was hooked!

There was even a real firetruck that the kids could climb on. Peyton was scared to get in it when we first arrived, but by the end of the afternoon he got brave enough to try it out. There were even real fireman's hats and boots to wear. Both were too big and heavy for Peyton.

After the firetruck, Peyton checked out this huge Jeep with a slide on the back. He enjoyed that as well.

Peyton also went grocery shopping and rang up his purchases at the cash register.

Kyle entertained us with his mad fruit juggling skills.

Finally, a picture with me in it! I look like I never play with Peyton, but it's just because I'm the one always snapping the pictures. The room we were in here was designed like a school (Fitting that I'd get my picture taken there, huh?). We were playing with magnetic letters and numbers. (By the way, for those that don't know, Peyton can say his ABC's and count to 10.)

There were several other rooms that we didn't visit or that we did visit, but that I just didn't include pictures from. It was huge in there.

It was past noon, which is normally lunch and nap time, but Peyton didn't care. He did not want to leave Play Wise Kids. We couldn't even lure him away with a promise of food! He threw a mighty temper-tantrum when we left. We stopped at McDonald's for lunch. Then Peyton passed out on the way back home.
Poor Sara was still sick, but Peyton and Lindsey had a blast. I think we'll be returning here in the future.

Kyle's dad and grandparents left Michigan early Saturday morning to come into town for the baptism. They were supposed to be stopping by our house for dinner on the way to Virginia. They called around 4:30 and said they'd be at our house in 30 minutes, according to their GPS. Well, turns out there was something wrong with the GPS and really they were still in Pennsylvania and had over 2 more hours to drive. Kyle suggested that they just skip our house and head to Kate and Dave's instead, because it was going to be late by the time they arrived. Then they'd still have another hour drive to Virginia after that.

We cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill for dinner. It was good, except that all three of the kids enjoyed their potato chips more than their hot dogs! While we were cooking, everyone was playing ring-around-the-rosie. It was hilarious. Peyton was just cheesing the whole time. The funniest thing is that he would watch everyone else fall down, but he would stay standing. He would crack up every time though.

Saturday was a pretty perfect day.

Lots O' Kids

Our nephew (and Godson!) Noah got baptised on Sunday, so most of Kyle's family came into town for that. Kate, Dave, and Noah live in Virgina, about an hour from us. Kyle's brother Ryan, his wife Becky, and their girls Lindsey and Sara stayed with us for the weekend while they were here. They left Indiana after Ryan got off work on Wednesday evening and arrived at our house around 4:30 am. I (being the champion sleeper that I am) did not hear them come in, so I didn't see them until Thursday morning when I left for work.

Thursday, Kyle stayed home from work and we kept Peyton home from daycare so that they could hang out. They all decided to meet up with Kate and Noah for lunch halfway between the two houses. I heard that Peyton was very excited to see Noah again. Duh.

I tried to leave work early, but was so busy that I only got out of there about a half-hour early. We had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. After dinner, the kids just played in the living room with all of Peyton's toys. I think at one point almost every one of his toys was on the floor! It was quite loud too! They all had fun playing with each other though. Here are some pictures.

On Friday, Kyle and I both went to work. Ryan and Becky planned to go to Virginia to spend the day with Kate and Noah so that they could have some time to love on him without a ton of people around. I left work an hour early, but no one was home yet, so that was kind of a waste. But I did get to spend some alone time with Peyton and that was nice.

We cooked some ham, mashed potatoes, corn, and salad for dinner. Everyone ate well, so we took a trip over to our community playground after dinner. I know I've posted a million pictures of Peyton at the playground, so everyone knows what it looks like by now, but at least the girls are in the pictures to mix it up a bit!

The kids got worn out from playing, so we headed back home and everyone eventually settled into bed.

I have more to talk about from the weekend, but I'll save it for another post. Stay tuned!
